This is a "Proof" strike coin (mirrored background and frosted relief), intended for collectors, not for general circulation. It is a commemorative Proof Silver edition from Paraguay, minted in 2003. The Guaraní is one of the most stable and oldest currencies in South America in continuous use, created on October 5, 1943, replacing the Paraguayan Peso to guarantee monetary independence. This coin celebrates exactly six decades of that reform. It mixes Spanish and Guaraní, reflecting the country's official bilingualism. Viru means "money". Aramboty means "anniversary". Free translation: "Anniversary of the Guaraní Currency". Minting: Produced by the FNMT (National Coin and Stamp Factory) of Spain for the Central Bank of Paraguay. Mintage is extremely limited, cataloged at only 500 units according to specialized local catalogs (Pratt Mayans PM#236).
